Very Hungry Catipillar Tuesday January 22 2019 at 6:00 PM

Midwest Theater
× Three beloved stories by Eric Carle, award-winning children’s book illustrator and author, are retold on stage through the magic of black light and fanciful puppets. The Very Hungry Caterpillar follows the wonderful adventures of a very tiny and very hungry caterpillar as he eats his way through an amazing variety of foods on his path to becoming a beautiful butterfly. High up in the sky, Little Cloud playfully transforms himself into various creatures, including a sheep, and an airplane, a shark and more. The Mixed-Up Chameleon is bored with his life, sitting about predictably changing colour all day. Following an adventurous trip to the zoo, he attempts to emulate the beautiful animals he sees before coming to the conclusion that there is value in his own unique self.

Adapted, designed and directed by Jim Morrow, with music by Steven Naylor and narration by Gordon Pinsent, the hour-long production features the imaginative approach to storytelling through theatre that has earned international recognition for Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia.

Peacherine Ragtime Society Friday March 8 2019 at 7:30 PM

Midwest Theater
× The Peacherine Ragtime Society Orchestra is “the premier American ragtime ensemble” as hailed by the Washington Post, and is rapidly becoming the leading professional ragtime orchestra in the United States. Formed by young virtuoso Andrew Greene at the University of Maryland in 2010, the Peacherine Ragtime Society Orchestra recreates the syncopated stylings of a bygone era – Ragtime, Theater, and Dance music, along with underscoring classic silent films using the original orchestral scores. The ensemble is composed primarily of young musicians, age 30 and below.

PRSO’s concert programs highlight the music of the late 1800s and early 1900s, with selections by composers such as Irving Berlin, George Gershwin, W.C. Handy, Victor Herbert, George M. Cohan, and of course, the King of Ragtime, Scott Joplin. Marches, two steps, waltzes, one steps, theatre selections, classical parodies, popular songs, and of course, rags, are just some of the many selections you’ll hear in their concerts.

× From the heartbeat of life that we all share to the a-rhythmic noise of conflict, racial divide, and miscommunication, Tapestry Dance Company takes a diverse and dynamic look at “The American Dream.” How does an individual navigate through the complexities of race, culture, gender identity, and equal rights? This work poses these questions through a tapestry of unique individual voices and stories. Through historical traditions and new works of tap dance set to a diversified musical score of spoken-word poetry, hip-hop, jazz and American classics, Tapestry sets a rhythm of communication, hope and healing in our “what’s politically correct?” world.
